Scores of admission seekers out of 51,000 Kwara State
Polytechnic applicants for the 2014/2015 academic
session on Thursday stormed the gate of the
institution in protest against their non-inclusion in
the institution’s admission list.
The protesters, our correspondent learnt, barricaded
the gate of the institution as early as 8.30am and
prevented vehicular and human traffic around the
area while they sang war songs. They also
attempted to mount road blocks on the old Ilorin-
Jebba Road but the police prevented them from
causing mayhem.
Some of the motorists that ply the route made a
detour to avoid being caught in the melee.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kwara State
Command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi in a telephone
interview with our correspondent on Thursday said 13
of the protesters were arrested by the police during
the protest.
The Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications
Division, Mr. Moshood Amuda in a statement said
the Polytechnic management was disturbed by the
action of the protesters.
