The popular Phase 2 in Tolu, Ajeromi Ifelodun Local
Government Area (Ajegunle) in Lagos State went up
in flames around 2:00am Tuesday.
No life was lost but property worth millions of naira
was destroyed. A yet-to-be-identified female occupant
of the hotel sustained serious injuries.
A source attributed the fire to recklessness on the part
of an official of the hotel. The source told Daily Trust
that the official had tried to refuel one of the hotel's
power generating sets, spilling most its content on the
exhaust pipe.
"This is what caused the fire outbreak. The official
and one of the boys tried to put out the fire, but it
spread to other parts of the building," the source
added.
The witness alleged that the official also sustained a
minor injury but was treated in a hospital and
discharged. Lagos State Police Public Relations
Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, said one person was injured
in the incident.
"Yes, fire gutted Phase 2 Hotel, but was put out by a
combined team of policemen and fire fighters who
promptly mobilized to the place. No life was lost but
one person sustained injury and is receiving
treatment," he said.
