A part of the Rivers state secretariat
of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was gutted by fire
in the early hours of Friday.
Vanguard gathered that the timely intervention of those
around saved the building from being consumed by
the fire. A source said the fire was even put out before
arrival of fire fighters from the state. It could not be
confirmed if documents were destroyed.
The state Chairman of the party, Mr Felix Obuah who
spoke on the incident blamed it on those whom he
alleged did not want the party ward congress slated for
tomorrow to hold.
It is not clear if he referred to the opposition parties in
the state or opposition within the party. The PDP has
been enmeshed in internal crisis in the last four months
with some of the party members calling for the
dissolution of the state leadership on the ground that it
is allegedly acting the script of the former Minister of
State for Education, Mr Nyesom Wike, an allegation the
party leadership had continued to deny. On his part,
Wike who is also contesting for the party’s ticket for the
next governorship election also dismissed the allegation
as false.
Meantime, about fifteen governorship aspirants of the
party Thursday called on the national leadership of
the party to ensure the governorship ticket did not go to
an Ikwerre man, apparently referring to Nr Wike who is
from Ikwerre. According to them it would amount to
injustice if another Ikwerre man succeeded governor
Chibuike Amaechi who is from Ikwerre.
Some of them also accused the state leadership of the
party of moving to install Wike as the party’s
candidate.
The state Chairman of the party, Mr Obua said the
congress would still go ahead inspite of the protest and
complaints

THE VANGUARD

Over 30 people were said to have been killed in an
explosion that rocked the popular Gombe Line
Transport Services Limited in Gombe State on Friday
morning.
Police and eyewitnesses said the explosion occurred
around 9.30am leaving several people dead and
scores of others injured.
The state police command has confirmed the blast,
adding that it had arrested three suspects in
connection with explosion.
It however did not give any casualty figure.
Details later…

- A car bomb exploded at a crowded bus stop in the northeast
Nigerian city of Gombe on Friday, killing at least five people and wounding
15 others, witnesses said.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blast. But Islamist group
Boko Haram has been blamed for a string of bomb attacks in trhe region
this year. Gombe has rarely been attacked.
"It just happened, and our men and the security agencies are on the scene
dealing with the fallout," an emergency services official told Reuters, saying
five people died. The military was not immediately available for comment.
Witness Godfrey Anebo said he saw emergency services pull eight people
from the wreckage, all of whom appeared to be dead.
"I am not sure what the death toll will be at the end but it will shoot up
very high because the bus stop was very full of commuters," Anebo said.
The government announced a ceasefire with Boko Haram nearly two weeks
ago as part of efforts to negotiate the release of more than 200 schoolgirls
kidnapped by the group in April. But violence has soared since.
The militants, who have been fighting to carve out an Islamist state in the
region, seized control of the northeast Nigerian town of Mubi on
Wednesday and Thursday, robbing banks, burning down houses, killing
dozens of people and forcing thousands to flee, witnesses said.

Virtual reality is big business now, just ask Facebook – the
social network giant recently purchased VR company
Oculus for a whopping $2 billion!
VR is an immersive experience in which your head
movements are tracked in a 3D world, making it suited to
games and even movies, and companies like Samsung
and Sony are getting involved.
But what are the best VR headsets you can buy? We asked
the wearable tech experts at Wareable for their top five.
And here's the best of the bunch
OCULUS RIFT
Oculus Rift is the virtual reality headset that started the
current boom. Funded via Kickstarter, the Rift plugs into
your PC and tracks your head movements to provide 3D
imagery to its stereo screens.
It's captured the imagination of game developers around
the world, and it can even be used to watch films on a
giant – albeit virtual – screen.
$350 (£210) • oculusvr.com
.............................................................
SONY PROJECT MORPHEUS
Sony's Project Morpheus, which should hit the shops next
year, provides virtual reality immersion for the Japanese
company's PlayStation 4 console.
Compatible titles are thin on the ground at the moment,
but it's a list that's sure to grow once the headset is
released. Already there have been some impressive demos
such as Among the Sleep and QUBE 2.

SAMSUNG GEAR VR
Samsung recently revealed its first venture into the world of
virtual reality with the Gear VR - an Oculus powered device
that uses a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 as both the engine
room and the display.
The Super AMOLED mobile device simply slots in, in front
of the lenses, to provide a 96 degree field of view. There’ll be
over 100 apps to go with it at launch, expect there to be
plenty of games.

.............................................................
CARL ZEISS VR ONE
Like the Samsung Gear VR, the power for this headset
comes from your smartphone and you’re not tied to just
one mobile with the Zeiss VR One; it will play nicely with
any iOS or Android handset between 4.7 and 5.2 inches.
Launching in December with two basic apps, its makers
will be hoping that its open source nature will see a boom
in bedroom developed VR games and apps.
$99 (£60) • oneteamus.org

AVEGANT GLYPH
Avegant's Glyph is far sleeker and smaller device than the
ones above. Its slick size is due to its display technology.
Rather than using smartphone-like screens to display the
visuals, it uses an array of micro mirrors to reflect an
image directly into your retina. Sounds like science fiction
huh?
Don’t be scared though, as this method is should alleviate
the nausea that comes with conventional virtual reality
headsets.

You cannot be happy or feel good about
yourself if you have a bad disposition. If
you are negative, self-critical and full of
anxiety, you are allowing ‘the committee’ to
control your life.
Try these steps to improve self-confidence:
1. Select your thoughts daily the same way
you select your clothes. This is a power you
have to cultivate. If you cannot master your
thoughts, you will stay stuck. To live in
Confidence City, you can’t move straight
there from Complacency City. You have to
reprogramme your thoughts daily for
success.
2. Be motivated by rejection. Enthusiasm
and passion are gifts – use them wisely. See
rejection as universe’s protection, saying to
you: ‘I have something way better; be
patient, have faith, live life.’ Every time a
confident person gets knocked back. they
say over and over again: ‘I can and I will’.
3. Advertise your strengths, not your
weaknesses. Stop telling everyone what you
can’t do, what you are not good at. Don’t
tell anyone you are not good enough. Stop
complaining about what is wrong in your
life, and what you don’t have. Here’s the
thing: 50 per cent of people don’t care and
45 per cent are glad.
4. Remove or limit time spent with toxic
people. Ignore others' criticism. Negativity is
spread by haters, repeated by fools and
accepted by those with low confidence and
no self-esteem. Confident people are not
manipulated into mediocrity just so others
don’t feel threatened.
5. Be kind to your mind. This will be the
turning point for you. When you are about
to be cruel, judgmental and negative about
yourself, ditch: ‘I can’t’, dump ‘why me?’
and drop ‘if only’. Observe and listen… hear
that? It’s the sound of ‘I am good enough’.
6. Stop the compare-and-despair. Put
yourself on a pedestal. All that glistens is
not gold. Hidden deep within you is the
blueprint, the template of your authentic
self. Persevere an attitude of self-acceptance.
Discover and explore your distinctively
human potentialities.
7. Practice self-care. Stop punishing yourself
for what you think, feel, and want. Listen
to what you need. It could be exercise, more
sleep, a hug, tea with a close friend, a pay
rise, to change careers, to work less, to have
more fun. Eliminate ‘shoulds’. Value yourself
by honouring yourself.
Change the messages you tell yourself and
start giving yourself permission to be the
star you are. This is not a magic formula.
You have to make it happen.
IT’S YOUR TIME TO SHINE!

Harness can sense the animal's movement
and sounds it makes
Speakers and vibrating pads in the harness
also allow owners to 'talk back' to their
animals
Could be used to train pets
Also set to be used in guide dogs and other
working animals
It could be the ultimate gadget for dog owners - a hi-
tech back for their pet that lets them communicate.
The sensor-packed harness can sense the animal's
movement, and the sounds it makes, letting the
owner know how they feel.
Speakers and vibrating pads in the harness also
allow owners to 'talk back' to their animals.

HOW IT WORKS
The platform itself is a harness that fits comfortably
onto the dog, and which is equipped with a variety
of technologies.
Wireless sensors can determine when they're sitting,
standing, running, etc., even when they're out of
sight.
The team developed software to collect, interpret and
communicate those data, and to translate human
requests into signals on the harness through speakers
and vibrating motors.
Researchers say the system could
be particularly useful for guide dogs and other
working animals.
They say it has applications in everything from
search and rescue to service dogs to training pets.
'We've developed a platform for computer-mediated
communication between humans and dogs that
opens the door to new avenues for interpreting dogs'
behavioral signals and sending them clear and
unambiguous cues in return,' said Dr. David Roberts
of North Carolina State University, who developed the
system.
'We have a fully functional prototype, but we'll be
refining the design as we explore more and more
applications for the platform.'
The platform itself is a harness that fits comfortably
onto the dog, and which is equipped with a variety
of technologies.
'There are two types of communication technologies,'
says Dr. Alper Bozkurt, an assistant professor of
electrical and computer engineering at NC State and
co-lead author of a paper on the work.

'One that allows us to communicate with the dogs,
and one that allows them to communicate with us.'
'Dogs communicate primarily through body
language, and one of our challenges was to develop
sensors that tell us about their behavior by observing
their posture remotely,' Roberts says.
'So we can determine when they're sitting, standing,
running, etc., even when they're out of sight – a
harness-mounted computer the size of a deck of
cards transmits those data wirelessly.
'At the same time, we've incorporated speakers and
vibrating motors, called haptics, into the harness,
which enable us to communicate with the dogs,'
Roberts adds.
'We developed software to collect, interpret and
communicate those data, and to translate human
requests into signals on the harness,' says Rita
Brugarolas, an NC State Ph.D. student and co-
author of the paper.
The technology also includes physiological sensors
that monitor things like heart rate and body
temperature. The sensors not only track a dog's
physical well-being, but can offer information on a
dog's emotional state, such as whether it is excited or
stressed.
These technologies form the core of the platform, but
it can be customized with additional devices
depending on the specific application.
'For example, for search and rescue, we've added
environmental sensors that can detect hazards such
as gas leaks, as well as a camera and microphone
for collecting additional information,' Bozkurt says.
'We're also very interested in addressing stress in
working dogs, such as guide dogs for the blind,'
saysSean Mealin, an NC State Ph.D. student and co-
author of the paper.

'We're reliant on the physiological and behavioral
sensors to give us a picture of the dog's mental and
emotional state.
'This can help handlers identify and mitigate stress
for the dogs, improving the length and quality of a
dog's life,' Mealin adds.
'It's an important issue.
'Particularly because guide dogs are bred and
trained not to display signs of stress in their
behavior.'
In addition to disaster response research, the research
team has already done work that uses the platform
to assist in dog training. They are now in the early
stages of miniaturizing the technologies and
improving the physiological sensors for use in
animal shelters and hospitals.
'This platform is an amazing tool, and we're excited
about using it to improve the bond between dogs
and their humans,' says Dr. Barbara Sherman, a
clinical professor of animal behavior at the NC State
College of Veterinary Medicine and co-author of the
paper.

The last message Iranian woman Reyhanah Jabbari recorded for her family just minutes before she was hanged in
Tehran has been released by an unknown source. The source of the recording remains unknown. The entire transcript
written by Jabbari has been published.
The 26-year-old, convicted of murdering an older man, went to the gallows at dawn on Saturday in Tehran’s Evin
prison after failing to secure a reprieve from the victim’s family.
Jabbari was sentenced to death for killing the man in 2007. She accused him of trying to rape her as a teenager.
The conviction sparked international condemnation and there were demands for the Iranian government to get
Jabbari’s sentence commuted.
The hanging comes at an inopportune time for Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who has been attempting a
rapprochement with the West after decades of hostilities rooted in Tehran’s nuclear programme and human rights
record.
“Dear Sholeh, today I learned that it is now my turn to face Qisas (the Iranian regime’s law of retribution). I am hurt
as to why you did not let me know yourself that I have reached the last page in the book of my life. Don’t you think
that I should know? You know how ashamed I am that you are sad. Why did you not take the chance for me to kiss
your hand and dad’s?
The world allowed me to live for 19 years. That ominous night I should have been killed. My body would have been
dumped in some corner of the city, and after a few days, the police would have taken you to the coroner’s office to
identify my body and there you would also learn that I had been raped as well. The murderer would have never been
found since we don’t have their wealth and their power. Then you would have continued your life suffering and
ashamed, and a few years later you would have died of this suffering and that would have been that.
However, with that cursed blow the story changed. My body was not thrown aside, but rather into the grave of Evin
Prison and its solitary wards, and now the grave-like prison of Shahr-e Ray. But give in to the fate and don’t complain.
You know better that death is not the end of life.
You taught me that one comes to this world to gain an experience and to learn a lesson and with each birth a
responsibility is put on one’s shoulder. I learned that sometimes one has to fight. I remember when you told me a story
from Nietzsche, the philosopher, about when he protested to a carriage man who was flogging his horse, but the flogger
hit the lash on his head and face…(not audible) and he taught us that for creating a value one should persevere even if
one dies.
You taught us that as we go to school one should be a lady when faced with quarrels and complaints. Do you
remember how much you emphasised the way we behave? Your experience was incorrect. When this incident happened,
my teachings did not help me. Being calm in court made me look like a cold-blooded murderer and a ruthless
criminal. I shed no tears. I did not beg. I did not cry my eyes out since I trusted the law.
But I was charged with being indifferent in face of a crime. You see, I didn’t even kill mosquitoes and I threw
cockroaches away by taking them by their antennae. Now I have become a premeditated murderer. My treatment of
the animals was interpreted as being inclined to be a boy and the judge didn’t even trouble himself to look at the fact
that, at the time of the incident, I had long and polished nails.
How optimistic was he who expected justice from the judges! He never questioned the fact that my hands are not coarse
like those of a sportswoman, especially a boxer. And this country that you planted its love in me never wanted me and
no one supported me when, under the blows of the interrogator, I was crying out and I was hearing the most vulgar
terms. When I shed the last sign of beauty from myself by shaving my hair I was rewarded: 11 days in solitary.
Dear Sholeh, don’t cry for what you are hearing. On the first day in the police office when an old unmarried agent
hurt me for my nails I understood that beauty is not looked for in this era. The beauty of looks, beauty of thoughts
and wishes, a beautiful handwriting, beauty of the eyes and vision, and even beauty of a nice voice.
My dear mother, my ideology has changed and you are not responsible for it. My words are unending and I gave it
all to someone so that when I am executed without your presence and knowledge, it would be given to you. I left you
much handwritten material as my heritage.
However, before my death I want something from you that you have to provide for me – with all your might and in any
way that you can. In fact, this is the only thing I want from this world, this country and you. I know you need time
for this. Therefore, I am telling you part of my will sooner. Please don’t cry and listen. I want you to go to the court and
tell them my request. I cannot write such a letter from inside prison for it would not be approved by the head of the
prison; so once again you have to suffer because of me. It is the only thing that, even if you beg for it, I would not
become upset although I have told you many times not to beg to save me from being executed.
My kind mother, dear Sholeh, the one more dear to me than my life, I don’t want to rot under the soil. I don’t want my
eye or my young heart to turn into dust. Beg so that it is arranged that as soon as I am hanged my heart, kidney, eye,
bones and anything that can be transplanted be taken away from my body and given to someone who needs them as
a gift. I don’t want the recipient to know my name. Buy me a bouquet, or even pray for me. I am telling you from the
bottom of my heart that I don’t want to have a grave for you to come and mourn there and suffer. I don’t want you to
wear black clothing for me. Do your best to forget my difficult days. Give me to the wind to take away.
The world did not love us. It did not want my fate. And now I am giving in to it and embracing death. Because in the
court of God I will charge the inspectors, I will charge inspector Shamlou, I will charge the judge, and the judges of the
country’s Supreme Court that beat me when I was awake and who did not refrain from harassing me. In the court of
the creator I will charge Dr. Farvandi, I will charge Qassem Shabani and all those who, out of ignorance or with their
lies, wronged me and trampled on my rights and didn’t pay heed to the fact that sometimes what appears as reality
is different from it.
Dear soft-hearted Sholeh, in the other world, it is you and me who are the accusers and others who are the accused. Let’s
see what God wants. I wanted to embrace you until I die. I love you.

After nearly eight years of work, the World Wide
Web Consortium (W3C) has finalized the HTML5
standard, bringing the basic Web technology
firmly into the era of mobile devices and cloud-
driven rich Internet applications.
"HTML5 brings the next generation of the Web,"
said W3C CEO Jeff Jaffe. "It wasn't so long ago
that the Web was about browsing static
documents. Today's Web is a much richer
platform."

Although Web and mobile developers have been
using parts of the HTML5 specification for several
years, the finished specification -- which the W3C
calls a recommendation -- ensures developers that
the code they develop for the Web will work going
forward.
"We're now at a stable state that everyone can
build to the standard and be certain that it will
be implemented in all browsers," Jaffe said. "If we
didn't have complete interoperability, we
wouldn't have one Web."
In 1989, physicist Tim Berners-Lee created the first
version of the HTML as a way to format and link
together written materials so they could be
accessed over the Internet. In the years since, the
resulting World Wide Web has come to serve
billions of users all manner of content, from
movies and music to full-fledged applications.
The HTML5 final recommendation , over 1,370
pages in length, addresses this complex
environment.
HTML5 provides a way to serve multimedia
content and application functionality without
relying on proprietary plug-ins to the browser. It
also addresses a wide range of other uses for the
Web, such as delivering scalable vector graphics
(SVG) and math annotations (MathML).
Today, HTML5 provides a "write-once, run-
anywhere" cross-platform alternative to writing
applications for multiple mobile platforms, such
as Android and Apple iOS devices, Jaffe said.
About 42 percent of mobile application developers
are using HTML, along with JavaScript and
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to build their apps,
according to a 2014 survey from mobile analysis
firm Vision Mobile.
The W3C hopes the specification will be a
cornerstone for future work in what it calls the
Open Web Platform, an even richer set of
standards for building cross-platform vendor
neutral online applications.
Moving froward, the W3C is developing
specifications for real-time communications,
electronic payments and application
development. It is also creating a set of
safeguards for privacy and security.
Ian Hickson, now employed at Google, served as
the principal architect of the HTML5
specification, and engineers at Microsoft, IBM
and Apple served as co-chairs for the working
group. Over 45,000 emails were exchanged when
drafting the document, from representatives of 60
companies.

Nigerian prosecutors said on Thursday they may seek
the death penalty against a 14-year-old girl accused of
murdering her 35-year-old husband by putting rat
poison in his food.
The trial of Wasila Tasi’u, from a poor northern Nigeria
family, has sparked a heated debate on the role of
underage marriage in the conservative Muslim region,
especially whether an adolescent girl can consent to be
a bride.
Prosecutors at the High Court in Gezawa, outside
Nigeria’s second city of Kano, filed an amended
complaint that charged Tasi’u with one count of
murder over the killing of Umar Sani two weeks after
their April wedding in the village of Unguwar Yansoro.
Lead prosecutor Lamido Abba Soron-Dinki said that if
proved, the charge is “punishable with death” and
indicated the state would seek the maximum penalty.
Tasi’u entered the court wearing a cream-coloured hijab
and was escorted by two policemen.
Her parents, who have condemned their daughter’s
alleged act, were in the public gallery — the first time
the three were in the same room since Tasi’u’s arrest in
April, her legal representatives said.
The English-language charge sheet was translated into
Hausa for the accused by the court clerk.
Tasi’u refused to answer when asked if she understood
the charges.
The case was adjourned for 30 minutes so the charges
could be better explained to the defendant, but when
the alleged offences were read again Tasi’u stayed
silent, turned her head to the wall and broke down in
tears.
“The court records (that) she pleads not guilty,” Judge
Mohammed Yahaya said, apparently regarding her
silence as equal to a denial of the charges and
adjourned the case until November 26.
Activists, including in Nigeria’s mainly Christian
south, have called for Tasi’u’s immediate release,
saying she should be rehabilitated as a victim and
noting the prospect that she was raped by the man she
married.
But in the north, Islamic law operates alongside the
secular criminal code, a hybrid system that has
complicated the question of marital consent.
The affected families have denied that Tasi’u was forced
into marriage, arguing that girls across the
impoverished region marry at 14 and that Tasi’u and
Sani followed the traditional system of courtship.
According to Nigeria’s marriage act, anyone under 21
can marry provided they have parental consent and so
evidence of an agreement between Tasi’u and her father
Tasiu Mohammed could undermine claims of a forced
union.
But defence lawyer Hussaina Aliyu has insisted the
case is not a debate about the role of youth marriage in
a Muslim society.
Instead, she has argued that under criminal law a 14-
year-old cannot be charged with murder in a high
court and has demanded that the case be moved to the
juvenile system

As part of a series of
efforts to address
issues of customer service complaint in Nigeria ,
Reportam .com. ng, an online customer service
complaint platform designed to receive reports
on good and bad customer service has been
launched . The purpose for which the online
complaint platform aims to serve has been a
long time coming giving the myriads of
customer complaints from nearly every sector of
the Nigerian consumers.
According to Mr. Olu Bello , the companys
Operations Manager , “This platform was
created out of personal experiences of bad
customer service which goes unaddressed or
resolved in Nigeria and I am sure this is an
exciting development that will become the first
point of call for all Nigerian consumers
regarding any bad and good service
experience .”
The mobile app ( Apple IOS and Android )
which has a unique auto alert notification to
post a report after calling a company will be
launched in the coming days .
The current platform is just the first phase as
a
bigger phase would be launched before the
end of the year.
Companies also have benefits to enjoy from
this platform and Bello
strongly advices that Nigerian corporates
should see this as a golden
opportunity to hear and reach out to its
customers . Nigerian companies must see the
value and positive part of this initiative as
88% of
consumers are less likely to buy from
companies who leave complaints
unanswered according to an online research”.
In its first week of launch , reportam. com.ng
reported over 500
registered consumers with 65% of reports being
complaints .

midnight to be precise, top level security report
informed the Speaker that orders have been
given for the withdrawal of his security
details .”
The withdrawal of his security details may
not be unconnected with his defection from the
PDP which didn ’t go down well with the party
and the presidency.
The PDP had on Tuesday called on Mr .
Tambuwal to resign his position as Speaker
having left the party that brought him to the
House of Representatives in 2011.
Tambuwal received a warm welcome on
Wednesday , a day after his formal defection
at the extraordinary national convention of
the APC in Abuja when he showed up at the
convention ground accompanied by 160 of his
APC colleagues.
He later addressed the convention expressing
his delight in joining the APC and said he
has embraced the APC platform as an
instrument for genuine change and enduring
national development.
As the number four citizen of the country in
the hierarchy of protocol , the Speaker is
entitled to a round the clock security made up
of men from the Police, Civil Defence Corps and
the Department of State Security (DSS ).
Our source said Tambuwal was told that “ a
verdict will be entered against him by a Court
in Abuja on Thursday . The thing here is that
why not wait for the verdict before any action
is taken ? ”
Efforts to reach the Speaker have so far proved
unsuccessful . Calls and SMS sent to his
spokesman Malam Imam Imam, have so far
remained unanswered .

A Magistrate’s Court sitting at Isabo,
Abeokuta, Ogun State, yesterday, remanded a
herdsman, Mohammed Ibrahim, in prison custody for
allegedly killing his friend, Abdullahi Saliu, for
sleeping with his (Ibrahim) wife.
The prosecutor, Corporal Moshood Hammed, told the
court that the accused committed the alleged offence on
October 11 at Ojubu Village in Abeokuta.
He said the accused killed his friend by hitting him
with a stick on his head for sleeping with his wife.
He said: “The accused and the deceased were close
friends and lived together in the same apartment.
“When the accused learned that the deceased slept with
his wife while he was away from home, a fight ensued
between the two men, which led to the murder of Saliu.”
Hammed said the offence contravened Sections 316 and
319 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun State.
The accused, who had no legal representation and
whose plea was not taken by the court, is facing a
charge of murder.
The magistrate, Mr. Martins Akinyemi, ordered that the
accused be remanded in Oba Prison, while awaiting
Director of Public Prosecution’s advice.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case to February 11, 2015,
for further hearing.

The Social Media giants may be in trouble!
In Today’s world social networks like Facebook
and Twitter both use user-generated content to
generate profits for their shareholders with no
money going back to the user.
Now this has been the norm ever since the
beginning of this digital age, but a
revolutionary idea has come along looking to
change everything around.
Tsu (pronounced ‘Sue’) is the first social network
that is opening up its bank to share 90% of the
revenue generated with it’s users. It just
launched on the 21st, and its algorithm intends
to re-distribute sales revenue directly to its source.

According to Tsu’s founder, Sebastian Sobczak: “Established social networks have built amazing business models prospering on the total monetization of free user-generated content. Why should anyone commercially benefit from someone else’s image, likeness and work giving no financial return to the owner? The markets we participate in are enormous, growing and can materially compensate each user — we’re simply and uniquely rewarding the users who are doing all the work. This is the way the world should work.” At a glance, Tsu seems to work in the same way as any other social network. Page views generate ad revenue, but what sets them apart is that only 10% of that ad revenue is returned to Tsu. 50% of ad revenue is sent to the content owner. The other 50% is given to the user who brought the content owner into the network. Where as any other network keeps 100% of the profit for themselves! CONFUSED? I WAS A LITTLE AT FIRST TOO. That 50% of profits propagates in a series of infinite thirds up a ‘family tree’ of users that begin with the original content owner. The person who invited him is the parent, and they get a third. The person who invited that person is a ‘grandparent’ and received a third of that third. So it’s like one giant pay-it-forward platform. So make sure to invite all your friends because Tsu only works if we decide we want it to. So Join the social media revolution and take back ownership of your social content. Sounds pretty awesome, right!? To Get An Invite from me .go to tsu.co/luigiajah Source: www.collectivelyconscious.net

As confusion continues to reign over the status of
ceasefire agreement between the federal government
and the Boko Haram sect, there is a raging battle
between the military and suspected members of the
terrorist organisation for the control of the strategic
town of Mubi, Adamawa State.
According to a military source, heavy exchange of fire
was ongoing at the time of this report on Wednesday
as the security forces battled to retake some of
sections of the town, including the 234 Battalion
Army headquarters reportedly captured earlier in the
afternoon by the terrorists.
It was reported that the military guarding the
barracks, after some feeble resistance, fled the scene
when more militants arrived in the area with heavy
firepower.
Meanwhile, all efforts to get both the Director of
Defence Information (DDI), Maj-Gen. Chris
Olukolade, and Director of Army Public Relations
(DAPR), Brig-Gen. Olajide Laleye, to either confirm or
comment on the matter proved abortive as text
messages were not replied.
However, a senior military personnel who spoke with
THISDAY has described the actions of the soldiers as
a shameful act of cowardice deserving punishment.
The source disclosed that the military authorities
had since sent a reinforcement to flush out the
insurgents.
The source said: “This acts of indiscipline and
cowardice is quite unfortunate and shameful when
the troops are well equipped with improved welfare.
“Troops from other places are being deployed to
confront the marauders.”
Fortunately, the source said, the reinforcement had
helped to stop the terrorists advance and would
ultimately reverse the losses.
Also, several residents of Uba town in Adamawa State
were on Wednesday reportedly killed by Boko Haram
insurgents as many other residents fled to
neighbouring towns.
A security source who confirmed the attack in Uba
town said after the insurgents had an encounter
with the Nigerian troops in a fierce battle, they split
into groups as some of them headed to Uba and
some others went towards Mubi.
About noon, there was serious battle going on
between the Nigerian troops and the insurgents in
Mubi, and according to the source, the insurgents
were fighting hard to overrun the military barracks
in Mubi.
He said the development had caused a
pandemonium in the affected areas: adding
“Presently there are gunshots and bombardment close
to the military barracks in Mubi. Mubi has now
become a ghost of its former self, people in hundreds
are fleeing for their lives.”
However, another source in Mubi said it was the
soldiers who were shooting into the air to scare away
insurgents who were believed to have sneaked into
Mubi town.
A source from Uba, Ahmadu Bello, said: “We are in
serious trouble, these boys (Boko Haram) have taken
our towns, splitting in groups with some advancing
towards Mararraban Mubi and Vintim the home
town of Chief of Defense Staff, Alex Badeh, giving
Nigerian troops a hot fight as soldiers retreated back
to Mubi.
“As I am talking to you now, residents are
scampering for their lives for fear of imminent attack
and uncertainty.
“While pursuing the soldiers, the insurgents shot
sporadically on innocent residents, during which five
persons were instantly killed by the insurgents.
“The town is now deserted, people have all fled into
nearby bushes and hilltops. We have seen soldiers in
their vehicles retreating,” he said.
Another source said the Boko Haram insurgents over-
ran Madagali down to Bazza. “They are having
field day, even yesterday I sneaked into Michika
town to evacuate my aged mother, but surprisingly
only insurgents could be seenmoving around, no
presence of soldiers,” the some said.
Also, a fleeing resident from Uba, who identified
himself as Mallam Yakuba said the insurgents
overran the area at the early hours of yesterday in
their hundreds and started shooting sporadically at
the residents, resulting in the death of undisclosed
numbers of people.
He said he gathered that the insurgents split
themselves into smaller groups, “some of them came
to Uba town, while others advanced toward
Mararaban  Mubi , through Vintim village to Dumo,
close to the Republic of Cameroun.”
Another fleeing resident from Uba, Mr. Gajere
Ambrose, said several people might have been killed
during the shooting spree that lasted for almost two
hours in Uba.
Confirming the incident, the state governor, Bala
James Ngillari, has asked the people of the state,
particularly those in the affected areas to remain
calm as security agents are on the top of the
situation.
The governor made the disclosure through his Press
Director, Mr. P P Elisha, saying that the development
was unfortunate while empathising with the people
affected.
He said, “His Excellency, has met with security chiefs
in the state and has made frantic efforts to bring the
situation under control.
“People should remain calm, security agents are on
the top of situation,’’ Elisha said.

Meanwhile, as the sales of forms end today, the
ruling PDP has raked in more than N6 billion from
the sales of governorship, National Assembly (Senate
and House of Representatives), state Houses of
Assembly and sales of ad hoc forms for the election
of delegates.
According to a statement issued by the National
Organising Secretary of party, Abubakar Mustapha,
the sales of delegate forms are expected to end today
by 12 midnight. Each delegate form is expected to
cost N5,000.
“Also, all completed delegate forms of those who have
returned their duly completed forms should be
returned to the state headquarters of PDP.
“All completed delegate forms shall be displayed at
the ward levels on November 1,” the National
Organising Secretary of PDP said.
According to a top member of the PDP National
Working Commission (NWC) who spoke in confidence
with THISDAY,  the president will pick his presidential
nomination form on Thursday before noon.
“This is what the PDP guidelines says and this must
be obeyed by all members of PDP seeking elective
positions respectively,” the PDP NWC said.
The NWC official said there would be elections at the
more than 8,000 wards across the country for the
purpose of electing the three member delegates who
are expected to elect the states and national
delegates.
On the revenue generated by PDP through the sales of
nomination and Expression of Interest forms, the
source said: “So far, over N2.2 billion has been
realised from the sales of the governorship forms. We
have sold no less than 200 governorship nomination
forms from the national secretariat.
“Each governorship form is sold at N10 million and
the Expression of Interest form is sold at N1 million.
“We are not talking about the senatorial and House
of Representatives forms, on that, we have more than
a thousand aspirants who have purchased the
senatorial forms. The senate form is sold for N4
million while the House of Representatives form is
sold for N2 million with N500,000 each for senate
and House of Representatives aspirants Expression of
Interest form.
“I have not included on the sale of nomination forms
for the House of Assembly aspirant which sales at
N100,000 with Expression of Interest form sold for
N200,0000 per aspirant. From the state assemblies,
we have more than 2,000 aspirants from more that
700 seats.
“In some states like Oyo, aspirants are paying N3
million as development fee, in Delta State, all the
state Houses of Assembly aspirants are made to pay
a mandatory development fee of N500,000 each.”
“In the election of ad hoc delegates, which covers
more than 24,000 aspirants as each ward is expected
to elect three delegates at N5000 from which we
garner over N150 million.
“If I say over N6 billion, I am just being conservative
as in 2011, we had more than, N6.5 billion after cost
have been reduced,” the NWC source said.
Meanwhile, the National Vice Chairman of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-south, Cairo
Ojuogboh, on Thursday berated the Speaker of the
House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal,
saying he used the party to elevate himself and later
dumped the platform.
“The PDP is a disciplined party, if you come and
steal into the PDP and use it to elevate yourself and
get into office, when the time comes, God will get you
out, like the issue of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
“You can see how God have exposed them, and the
PDP will do everything within the law to regain its
seat and that is what we are going to do in both
Edo and Rivers States,” he added.
He explained that the party would go to the South-
south to regain its seat.
Commenting on the denial of sale of presidential
nomination forms to son of former Prime Minister, Dr.
Abdul Jahlil Tafawa Balewa, and widow of the late
Chief MKO Abiola, Professor Akasoba Duke-Abiola,
Cairo said: “The issue is that the party has taken a
decision on the issue of the presidency at the
National Executive Committee (NEC) and if they have
paid, the matter will be addressed, it is a disciplined
party,” Ojuogboh said.
He was however not emphatic whether the party
would refund the money back to Balewa and Duke-
Abiola.
Balewa and Duke-Abiola before they were denied the
presidential nomination forms, paid N22million
and N2million respectively paid into Zenith and
Diamond Banks respectively.
The PDP chieftain also expressed optimism that the
alleged boast of the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi
Amaechi at the 2015 polls does not intimidate the
party.
“Come May 29, 2015, I can assure you that Amaechi
will not be there to hand over, some people boasted in
Adamawa State, where are they?
“He has a home in Ghana, I am sure he is preparing
his home in Ghana,” he added.

Alcatel-Lucent is opening up Africa's most populous
nation to the benefits of ultra-broadband
connectivity by launching a superfast, 100 gigabit-
per-second fiber-optic network with MTN Nigeria, a
subsidiary of Dubai-based MTN Group.
MTN Nigeria, which covers more than almost 90
percent of Nigeria's land mass, will deploy a 100G
network that re-uses existing 10G optical assets
thereby preserving MTN past investments while
ensuring future proof and state of art solution.
According to Lynda Saint-Nwafor, CTO of MTN
Nigeria said,"MTN realized we needed to upgrade
our network to meet customer expectations for ultra-
broadband connectivity and high reliability within
Nigeria's very competitive marketplace. We wanted a
state of the art solution that met three main criteria:
increased network reliability, a high degree of
scalability to prepare the network for 400G and
beyond, and preservation of our existing 10G
investment. Alcatel-Lucent's demonstrations showed
that they could meet all of our criteria and we look
forward to deploying the network overlay in 2014."
Nigeria's growing economy is fueling a proliferation
of mobile subscribers, which number about 275 to
every one landline in the country. As a result,
Nigeria has a significant need for reliable, mobile
broadband access to support growing demand for
bandwidth hungry services such as streaming video
plus the ever-increasing need from enterprises for
storage and data center connections. The new
network also gives MTN the capacity and flexibility
to offer wholesale services to other service providers in
the region.
MTN Nigeria is the biggest mobile operator in
Nigeria, Africa's most populous country, and West
Africa region with more than 58 million subscribers
and also is the largest subsidiary in the MTN Group.
MTN Nigeria's network covers 88.8 percent of the
country's land mass giving 86.2 percent of the
population access to mobile services.
Alcatel-Lucent is supporting MTN Nigeria's rapid
growth in mobile subscribers by building a 100G
DWDM/OTN network using Alcatel-Lucent's 1830
Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform, a family of
equipment that has been designed according to the
latest international SD-FEC zero touch photonics and
coherent technology.
"We knew that MTN's top priority was to provide
reliability to their customers but they also wanted to
offer ultra-broadband and they wanted to retain
usefulness of as much of their legacy network as
possible. We were able to show that we can give them
a cost-effective solution that accomplishes all of their
goals in a way that no one else could," said Hatim
Zougari, Country Senior Officer of Alcatel-Lucent in
Nigeria.
Alcatel-Lucent Agile Optical Networking combines
WDM, OTN, and GMPLS/ASON control plane
intelligence to assure scalable, versatile, reliable and
efficient transport at 100G and beyond.

An unbelievable miracle
recently happened in Lagos as a certain woman simply identified as Mrs. Adenike Kolawole was delivered of a baby boy after being barren for
27 years, and having also carried her pregnancy for five years.

Mafon area, Ejigbo, Lagos during church service.
Narrating her story, Mrs Kolawole said, “When I found out I was pregnant, I was happy but at the same time, I was observing my
normal menstrual cycles."
The woman said she waited endlessly to deliver, but to no avail, so she relocated to Lagos to seek for help. The search for spiritual
solution eventually brought took her to the church where she eventually delivered the baby.
“I was at the church service when I noticed that water was coming from my private part and I went to a room to check what was
happening, before I knew it, the baby came out alive. I raised alarm which attracted church members who assisted me to deliver the
baby,“ she added.

Some Men of the Nigerian Police Force Are So Corrupt. Here's an Extract from The Punch.

Some mobile policemen threw caution to the wind in
Bayelsa State and beat a serving Navy officer to a
pulp over his refusal to offer them bribe.
The incident was said to have taken place during
the last Saturday’s monthly environmental
sanitation at Tombia in Yenagoa Local Government
Area of the state.
The mobile policemen were said to have mounted
checkpoint near the Tombia roundabout, allegedly
collecting bribes from motorists and commercial
tricycle operators.
An eyewitness, who did not want his name
mentioned for fear of reprisal, said the Navy officer
attached to the Central Naval Command, Yenagoa,
incurred the wrath of the policemen when they
(MOPOL) stopped the vehicle he was inside and
demanded bribe from the driver.
He said the Navy officer, who was in mufti,
identified himself and asked the policemen to let
them go.
He said as the Navy officer was explaining to the
policeman that stopped their vehicle, one of the
policemen came from nowhere and dealt a heavy
blow to the Navy officer.
He said the Navy officer, who was upset, alighted
from the vehicle and held the policeman that
punched him to explain what warranted his attack
on him after identifying himself.
The eyewitness said, “It was at that point that the
other mobile policemen, in solidarity with their
colleague, pounced on the Navy officer and beat him
to a pulp.
“As the beating was too much, some civilians who
witnessed the incident went to rescue the Navy
officer. Still they could not as the mobile policemen
threatened to shoot anybody that came near. They
threatened that they would deal with Navy officer
because he was challenging them.”
He said had it not for the arrival of the Bayelsa State
security outfit, Operation Doo Akpo, that came to the
place, the Navy officer would have been killed.
The eyewitness also said the Tombia community had
been looking for an adolescent boy whisked away by
the policemen after the incident.
A naval officer, who spoke to our correspondent on
condition of anonymity, said when the naval
command got the information, tempers of men and
officers rose.
He, however, said the police authorities, fearing the
incident could snowball into a reprisal, quickly sent
some ranking officers to apologise to the Navy.
The navy source said, “Where is the principle of
Espirit de corps? The officer identified himself and
instead of allowing him to go, you pounced on him
and beat him like a common criminal. This is an
unfortunate situation.
“You know this kind of situation could trigger
reprisal. Some of these policemen do not know there is
synergy among security agencies. Imagine the
MOPOL people going about telling people they were
going to kill all the Navy people they see.  Can they
stand the Navy if we want to fight them?”

A Nigerian student
has been hospitalized in the Russian city of Penza on
suspicion of having Ebola virus , he is currently being
tested, the local media reported on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old young man came to Russia on October 17
for an education program at a local architectural
university. Since his arrival, he has made contact with

Gunmen on a speedboat in Nigeria’s oil-
producing south killed four policemen and kidnapped
six Nigerian employees of the Agip energy firm, in the
latest unrest to hit the restive region, the security forces
said Tuesday.
The attack happened on Friday in the Nembe Creek
area of Bayelsa state, which was one of the most violent
regions of the delta at the height of an insurgency that
formally ended in 2009.
“Four policemen who were escorting a boat were attacked
and killed. Six oil workers were abducted in the
incident,” said Mustapha Anka, spokesman for the
military’s Joint Task Force in the region.
National police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu told
AFP that three officers were killed but multiple reports
from the region put the death toll at four.
A security source in the delta identified the hostages as
employees of the Nigerian subsidiary of the Italian
energy firm Agip, which is controlled by ENI, one of the
world’s largest oil companies.
Criminality, especially ransom kidnappings, has
persisted in the delta since a 2009 amnesty deal with
militant leaders ended the formal rebellion.
But there is widespread concern over escalating violence
in the region, with the amnesty deal set to expire next
year.
Officially, the peace deal offered job training and other
benefits to militants who voluntarily gave up their
arms.
But experts say that in practice the deal amounted to
massive cash payouts to gang leaders who could
resume fighting if the money is shut off.
The Niger Delta, home to Africa’s largest oil industry, is
made up of a network of rivers and creeks.
Criminal groups have a track record of speeding
around on small boats and launching gun attacks on
the security forces and oil workers.
Both foreign and Nigerian hostages have typically been
released following a ransom payment.

A British woman has died after undergoing an operation to increase the size of her bottom in Thailand, police said.
Born in Nigeria, Joy Williams, 24, was from Thamesmead, London. Her family were
too upset to comment.
The doctor who carried out the surgery, Sompob Sansiri, has been charged with
causing her death by negligence. He is accused of carrying out night-time surgery
without a licence.
Williams had travelled to Bangkok in Thailand for the £2000 (R35000) buttock
augmentation operation.
Police Colonel Chayut Marayard, the investigating officer, said she underwent the
operation on October 14, but her wounds became infected.
She was in severe pain and returned to the clinic on Thursday to have the implants
removed, but died shortly after the second operation.
"At school she had been bullied over her appearance," said a friend who did not wish
to be identified.

A 22-year-old woman from Nagaland
was allegedly raped by a Nigerian national who
had promised to get her a job at a multinational
company and marry her. The accused has been
arrested.
In her complaint to the police, the woman said she
had met the man six months back through a social
networking site during which he claimed to work
with a multinational company based in Gurgaon.
The man started meeting her frequently and had
recently moved in with her. Since then, he started
raping her and threatened her with dire
consequences if she tried to escape.
She told the cops that the man used to confine her to
a room and beat her up if she refused his advances.
Finally she managed to escape from him on Sunday
night and went to the Maurice Nagar police station
where she registered a complaint. A team of cops
arrested the man from the house on Monday
morning.
The woman was sent for a medical examination
after which she was sent to a women's centre for
counseling. A case of rape and illegal confinement
has been registered against the man.
Police said that the woman had come to the city two
years back and had completed her graduation from
the Delhi University after which was looking for a
job.

Visiting Nigerian singer Wizkid was arrested from his
Nairobi Crown Plaza hotel room on Saturday
afternoon and quizzed by police only hours before his
flight back to Lagos.
The arrest was in connection with allegations that he
was caught smoking illegal substances.
The incident happened at around 1pm just as the
Caro singer was checking out of his hotel room where
he has been staying for a week, since his last week’s
concert.
According to our sources, Wizkid was caught smoking
‘weed’ inside the hotel in which smoking is prohibited.
The hotel’s Front Officer asked him why he was
smoking before the two got into a heated argument
attracting security officers who ended up calling the
police to arrest him.
Before police officers cuffed him and drove him to
Capital Hill police station where he was quizzed, the
hotel had already charged him with Sh50, 000
smoking penalty, which he paid through his credit
card.

Coming to his rescue was his newly found Kenyan
flame Victoria Kimani, who followed him to the police
station shortly after he had been arrested.
Victoria had been with the singer at the hotel the
previous day.
Wizkid was due to leave for Lagos at around 3pm and
was forced to cancel the flight due to the drama.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday
warned Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers
State against “ reckless and irresponsible”
comments aimed at blackmailing the
Presidency and inciting Nigerians against the
government .
Apart from accusing Amaechi of
misappropriation of the funds belonging to
Rivers State , the President reminded him of
possible repercussions for his current actions
when he is shred of gubernatorial immunity
after leaving office next year.
Jonathan , who is on a pilgrimage to Israel ,
was reacting to the political rally of the
opposition All Progressives Congress (APC )
organised by Amaechi in the state capital ,
Port Harcourt , during which he branded the
President a non-performer and a
disappointment to Rivers people and
Nigerians.
Jonathan in a statement issued by his
spokesman , Reuben Abati, said the governor
had crossed the red line in his selfish political
agenda by resorting to libel, blackmail,
incitement and immoral , baseless falsehood
against the President , the First Lady and the
Federal Government .
Abati said the Presidency was aware that
Amaechi had squandered the resources of
Rivers State on dubious projects , but warned
that “a day of reckoning will surely come
when he will answer for all his actions and
false allegations against President Jonathan ,
the First Lady and the Federal Government .”
The Presidency further asked Amaechi to stop
trying to make Jonathan a scape- goat in a
bid to cover up his failings as governor of
Rivers State for eight years.
The statement reads: “Governor Rotimi
Amaechi took his obnoxious willingness to
denigrate the highest office in the land in a
reckless bid to advance his selfish political
interests to a new level of irresponsible and
rascally behaviour yesterday in Port Harcourt
with his totally false and baseless
vituperations against President Jonathan , the
First Lady and the Federal Government .
“ It appears from the Governor’s completely
unfounded and off-the -mark allegations that
he had totally lost all sense of propriety,
decorum and responsible political behaviour
and resorted to unacceptable demagoguery ,
libel, blackmail and incitement of public
disorder.
“ Unless his unbridled ambition and desire for
self - promotion have completely befuddled his
mental faculties and caused him to totally
lose touch with reality , Governor Amaechi
must know that his claims and allegations
are untrue .
“ We can only assume therefore that he is
deliberately spewing malicious falsehood in a
desperate effort to incite the people of Rivers
State and Nigeria against his assumed
political foes .
“ We warn him that there are legal ,
constitutional and moral limits to political
rascality beyond which he will not be allowed
to go without repercussions .
“ The immunity which he currently enjoys
notwithstanding , Governor Amaechi should be
under no illusions : A day of reckoning will
surely come when he will answer for all his
actions and false allegations against
President Jonathan , the First Lady and the
Federal Government .
“ He should also know that Nigerians are
aware of the truth and will never be fooled or
swayed by his arrant opportunism and anti-
Jonathan rantings.
“ Nigerians know that while Mr. Amaechi
falsely accuses others of corruption, he cannot
show or explain to the people of Rivers State
what he has done with the billions of Naira
that has accrued to the state under his tenure .
“ They also know that while Amaechi
continues to falsely accuse the Jonathan
Administration of having done nothing for
Rivers State , he has recklessly squandered
huge state resources on dubious, vain-glorious
projects or self- aggrandizement.
“ Nigerians will know too that while he falsely
alleges that Rivers and other states have not
received funds due to them from the Federation
account, the only outstanding allocation was
for September , which was released to all states
well over a week ago .
“ The Governor should stop trying to make
President Jonathan the scapegoat for his
woeful performance in Rivers State and look to
his own very apparent failings and
incompetence .
“ He should also stop blackmailing the First
Lady who has demanded nothing from him
other than good governance, justice, equity,
fairness , real development and progress in
Rivers State .”
In another development, Governor Seriake
Dickson has declared that the politics of
Bayelsa State was characterised by treachery ,
disloyalty and pull- him-down syndrome
before the emergence of the present
administration .
Dickson buttressed his observation on the
state ’s divisive politics, saying that the state
chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party
usually gets factionalised three months after
any sitting governor sets up a political
structure .
“ For those of you who have been involved in
the politics of this state for sometime , you
know that in Bayelsa, immediately a governor
sets up any structure because of the essential
divisive nature of politics in this state before
now, two or three months down the line , you
will see the party factionalised .
“ Let no one ’s personal ambition be too big for
the stability of our state, ” he cautioned.
