There are fears of another round of Ijaw/
Itsekiri crisis in Warri , following the alleged
threat to Lagos Lawyer , Mr . Festus Keyamo, for
getting involved in a case over the alleged
illegal substitution of Hon. Weyinmi Omadeli
as the People Democratic Party , PDP accredited
candidate for the Warri South- West Local
Government chairmanship seat in last
Saturday council polls in Delta State.
He was alleged to have been replaced with
Hon. George Ekpemukpolo, the younger brother
of Chief Government Ekpemukpolo a .k .a
Tompolo.
While concerned persons who do not want
their names in print believe that Omadeli was
sacrificed by the state Governor, Dr . Emmanuel
Uduaghan , for his senatorial ambition
instead of the Itsekiri interest , others say that
Uduaghan took the right decision , in the
circumstances, to avoid another round of inter -
tribal war and unnecessary bloodshed.
Keyamo has stated in a petition to the
Inspector -General of and the Department of
State Security Service ( DSSS) that Tompolo
threatened to kill him anywhere his boys get
him either in Abuja, Lagos or Warri, stating
that he needs to shout out so that his death,
when it eventually happened, could be traced
to somebody and do not become one of the un -
resolved murder cases in the country .
Saturday Independent equally gathered that
Tompolo himself has since denied ever
threatening him. But concerned Deltans insist
that the truth can be verified through the
telephone network service provider with which
Keyamo alleged that Tompolo spoke with him.
There appeared to be a mild drama on Friday
at an event in Warri during which the key
actors in the unfolding drama of political
rascality that is playing out when Chief Ayiri
Emami , the chief promoter of Hon. Omadeli,
was seated close to Hon. George Ekpemukpolo
on the high table. It took the dexterity of the
master of ceremony , Mr. Mudiaga Asagba , to
politely request for the re -arrangement of
seating positions to avoid a possible
breakdown of law and order .
Meanwhile , the question in the minds of
Warri residents now is whether we are about to
witness another round of bloodshed in Delta ,
even as some persons believe that Omadeli was
thrown up for the contest by the PDP and was
removed by the party and so should tread
slowly.
Others believe that Omadeli’s current posturing
could be to raise the stakes for him to be
properly settled as the matter is a PDP family
matter .
But as Mr. Oki Edema said that Uduaghan
has sold out Itsekiri nation for his personal
ambition , using Omadeli as the sacrificial
lamb , even as some claimed that Omadeli is
fully aware of the game plan and is only
playing to the gallery.
The Itsekiri leaders of thought had earlier
issued a statement saying that Itsekiri nation
is not a family share holding interest nor is it
a friendly gift to political associates.
As the drama unfolds , it is a matter for the
courts to decide if the PDP cannot resolved
same amicably according to Tuoyo Okidi who
said we do not need to fight over these issues
again
